Dr Roger Henderson Biography

Dr Roger Henderson was born in 1960 and raised in Whitehaven, Cumbria. He qualified as a doctor from St Bartholomew's Hospital, London in 1985 and as a general practitioner in 1990.
He decided to enter the media world in 1995, and within 2 years was the medical columnist for the Sunday Times. He now writes for a number of national newspapers and magazines and appears regularly on the television, radio and internet.

He is a senior GP, recently retired from his long-standing position as the head of a 16,000-patient general practice where he was also a GP trainer, running his large main surgery and two branch surgeries including a University campsite. He now works as a sessional GP in order to concentrate on his health media work.

His books include 'Stress Beaters; 100 Proven Ways to Manage Stress', '100 ways to live to 100', 'Over 50 Men's Health Check', ‘Pregnancy for Dummies' and 'Dad's Guide to Pregnancy for Dummies'.

He is a popular lecturer on a wide range of health-related topics, sits on a number of health advisory boards both in the UK and globally, and has developed a reputation as a highly respected chairman and moderator at health conferences around the world. He is the UK content creator for Healthwords – one of the world’s first conversational AI tools solely focused on providing healthcare advice and self-care products in the UK. He is also a writer and presenter for GP Notebook, and chairs the Pulse 365 online meetings.

In 2023 he launched the highly successful podcasts ‘Skin Deep’ and ‘Rash Decisions’ – skin-related podcasts aimed at both the general public and healthcare professionals.

He is a judge for the national 2023 General Practice Awards to be held later this year.
